Kashmiri IDP’s seminar at House of CommonsThe Indo-European Kashmir Forum (IEKF) held a seminar on 30 March 2011 to discuss the plight of the Hindu and Sikh Refugees in Jammu, the Internally Displaced People (IDP'S) from the Kashmir Valley

The debate was chaired by Marcus Jones MP, with Baroness Emma Nicholson, a LibDem Life Peer and the Rapporteur of the Kashmir Report of 2007. The All Party Parliamentary Group for Kashmir was invited and their Secretaries, Andrew Griffiths MP and Richard Harrington MP, attended the debate.

Social Enterprise Coalition and CEMVO seminar at Baylis House in Slough on 9th March 2011

As Chair of CEMVO, I welcomed the key note speaker Ms. Fiona Mactaggart MP for Slough after explaining how wonderful he finds, as an accountant, that Charities are now able to move into social enterprises and which is bound to make communities stronger and self sufficient over time.

Richard Barnes, the Deputy Mayor, in charge of Equality and Diversity, gave a talk on business contracts now being made available to small and medium businesses for the Olympics through the ‘Compete 4’ web based application procedure. Some social enterprise companies from the Tower Hamlets Community Leadership Forum headed by Emdad Haque, along with other BME aspiring entrepreneurs attended the meeting.

HCUK honours Anil Bhanot for his OBE

Pandit Shastry ji recited some Vedic Mantras whilst putting a ceremonial scarf over Anil Bhanot for his work for the Hindu community and interfaith relations in the UK, for which he was awarded an OBE in the Queen's Birthday  Honours List 2010.

The opening ceremony on the 4th October was amazing which put up a showcase of traditional Indian culture. The aerostat lit up and hovered up to show images of all the shows and the teams entering the circuit. The main theme song was a bit of a dampener but the lofty Yoga structure showing the various Chakras in a Buddha image looked mesmerising. Contrary to all the negative press we had seen here in London the games village and the Delhi city with its new Metro was something to be proud of.
